Terra Classic in 2025: A Complete Overview of the Upcoming Blockchain Upgrades
Wondering whatโs really happening with Terra Classic?
Spoiler: A lot is happeningโjust behind the scenes.
Terra Classic: A community-powered blockchain that refuses to die
Since the catastrophic crash of May 2022, the Terra Classic blockchain (formerly Terra Luna) has been abandoned by its original developers, Terraform Labs, but taken over by its global community. What followed is a complex and difficult, but inspiring rebirth.
Developers, validators, and contributors across the globe have stepped up to rebuild the project from the ground up, transforming Terra Classic into one of the most resilient, community-run blockchains in the crypto space.
Today, multiple independent development teams are actively working to modernize the infrastructure, improve network security, and prepare the foundation for a sustainable repeg of USTC.
Despite the silence on social media, real progress is being made.
Stability First: Why Development Has Been Temporarily Paused
After the recent upgrade to Cosmos SDK 0.47.x, some bugs and instability were detected on the Terra Classic network. Rather than pushing for new features prematurely, the community made the strategic choice to pause all new development proposals until the current bugs are fixed.
As a validator and community member, I fully supported this decision. The goal is clear: stabilize the base before scaling further.
This approach prioritizes security, long-term reliability, and clean code – a responsible stance that builds trust with users, developers, and potential partners.
BLV_Labs: Whitelisted Wallets for the Burn Tax
One of the most anticipated upgrades is a whitelisted wallet management system developed by BLV_Labs.
This system would allow specific addresses like CEXs, smart contract wallets, and DAOs to be exempted from the Burn Tax.
Why it matters:
- Improves interoperability with exchanges
- Prevents dApps from being unfairly penalized
- Boosts adoption by making the ecosystem developer-friendly
The module is already ready for testnet deployment. Once its dependencies are cleared (see Orbit_Labs section), it will move toward mainnet integration.
Orbit_Labs: Removing Legacy Terra Classic Code
The Terra Classic codebase still includes thousands of lines of legacy code inherited from Terraform Labs. Much of this code is outdated, undocumented, and incompatible with modern Cosmos SDK standards.
Orbit_Labs is leading a cleanup effort to remove this legacy code from critical modules such as wasmd.
Why this matters:
- Reduces technical debt and hidden bugs
- Ensures compatibility with SDK upgrades
- Makes the codebase easier to maintain
- Boosts the confidence of external developers
Once this cleanup is completed, BLV_Labs will be able to finalize and deploy their Burn Tax whitelist module.
Antier Solutions & StrathCole: Fixing Cosmos SDK 0.47.x Bugs
While Orbit_Labs works on code refactoring, Antier Solutions, alongside veteran contributor StrathCole, is focusing on fixing bugs introduced by SDK 0.47.x.
Among the known issues:
- IBC message misbehavior
- Validator sync errors
- Gas metering inconsistencies
- Indexing glitches
Once these bugs are resolved, the project will be ready for a proposed upgrade to Cosmos SDK 0.50.x, which brings:
- Enhanced security
- New module architecture
- Better performance
- Full compatibility with current Cosmos ecosystem tools
What About the USTC Repeg?
The question everyone is asking: When is the USTC repeg coming back?
The truth is, no repeg can succeed without stable infrastructure. Thatโs why these current developments are so critical.
๐ My view:
Iโve proposed a structured plan called the EUTC Repeg Strategy, which introduces:
- A collateralized and on-chain stablecoin (EUTC)
- Transparent liquidity pools
- Automated ratio management using Market Modules
- A fair distribution of transaction fees via the Tobin Tax
- Community governance at every step
This plan is designed to avoid the fatal flaws that led to the 2022 crash and to offer real stability backed by real assets.

Where Terra Classic Stands Today
Letโs take stock:
- โ Active network with over 100 validators
- โ Nearly 1 trillion LUNC staked, near 16%.
- โ A growing base of global supporters and developers
- โ IBC and CosmWasm already live
- โ ๏ธ SDK modernization urgently needed
Why Terra Classic Still Has Huge Potential
While other abandoned chains fade away, Terra Classic continues to build:
- A loyal user base
- Skilled, independent development teams
- A DAO-based governance structure
- A strong validator ecosystem
- A real plan to restore stablecoin credibility
๐ Most importantly: it has a collective memory. The lessons of 2022 arenโt forgotten, theyโre being used to build smarter this time.

Final Thoughts: Terra Classic Moves at Its Own Pace
In a space that values hype over substance, Terra Classic stands out as a project that builds quietly but deliberately. Each bug fix, each refactored module, and each governance vote is a small but meaningful step toward a stronger, safer, and smarter blockchain.
At Lunctoken.org, we remain committed to covering these developments in plain language, making Terra Classic accessible to both beginners and blockchain veterans.
