Establishing the Terra Classic Sub-DAO Initiative
The Terra Classic Sub-DAOs initiative is aimed at organizing and decentralizing key responsibilities for the Terra Classic blockchain. It consists of multiple autonomous sub-DAOs that collectively address various aspects of the chainโs needs.
This proposal outlines the structure, responsibilities, and governance mechanisms of these sub-DAOs, ensuring transparency, security, and community involvement.
FORMATION AND STRUCTURE
The structure will initially consist of four Sub-DAOs, each requiring governance approval for formal establishment.
The Sub-DAOs will be structured as follows:
1.ย ย Sub – Dao #1ย : Security and Chain Stability of Terra Classic
2.ย ย Sub – Dao #2ย : Communication and Marketing for Terra Classic
3.ย ย Sub – Dao #3ย : Documentation and Roadmap for Terra Classic
4.ย ย Sub โ Dao #4ย : Mediation for Terra Classic
Each sub-DAO will operate for a six-month term, unless dissolved voluntarily or removed via governance vote.
Additional sub-DAOs may be introduced through governance if necessary.
After 6 months, each sub-DAO will submit a new governance proposal, requesting to either continue their role for an additional 6 months, or to request approval for any new additions/replacements to the Sub-DAO.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND MEMBERSHIP CRITERIA
SUB-DAO #1: SECURITY AND CHAIN STABILITY
Members:
4โ6 individuals with proven development experience
KYC Requirement:
Only those with merge or push access to the classicterra repositories (as per Proposal #12129 and #12058) must complete KYC.
Duties:
- Address security vulnerabilities and coordinate with developers and the validator set for critical fixes.
- Serve as a point of contact for software maintainers.
Governance Oversight:
- The Sub-DAO does not function as a development team but coordinates and assesses security risks in collaboration with developers.
- This Sub-DAO may act without governance approval only in cases of major security risks that endanger funds or chain stability. All other development decisions must go through governance.
- A separate, dedicated maintenance team should ideally be voted in through governance and funded via a recurring contract.
SUB-DAO #2:ย COMMUNICATION AND MARKETING
Members:
3โ4 individuals with expertise in communication and marketing.
KYC Requirement:
Required for those directly engaging with CEXs, DEXs, CMC, or any other external partners.
Duties:
- Act as the official representative for communications.
- This Sub-DAO does not replace previously established relationships of community members with outside entities, but instead will serve as an additional, governance approved, point of contact, should the outside entity request one.
- Liaise with centralized exchanges, decentralized exchanges, and strategic partners.
- Organize at least one public AMA per month, with participation from representatives of each sub-DAO for transparency.
- Optionally establish an X (Twitter) page or website for publishing updates and announcements.
- Clarification: This should not be mistaken for an โofficial governance approved website for Terra Classic.โ
SUB-DAO #3: DOCUMENTATION AND ROADMAP
Members:
5โ7 individuals with expertise in documentation and a strong understanding of the chainโs needs.
KYC Requirement:
Not required.
Duties:
- Ensure all Terra Classic documentation is updated and current, coordinating with any existing documentation efforts by community members.
- Coordinate the development of a recommended roadmap for the Terra Classic chain that encourages collaboration, cross chain opportunities, and community involvement.
- Clarification: Any official roadmap will be subject to onchain governance approval.
SUB-DAO #4: MEDIATION (Standby Only)
Members:
3โ5 individuals available on a standby basis.
- As this Sub-DAO is only โas- neededโ, this Sub – DAO serves as a voluntary position with no paid members.
KYC Requirement:
Not required.
Duties:
- Help resolve internal disputes within other sub-DAOs.
- Serve as a tiebreaker if other sub-DAOs reach an impasse.
- Mediate grievances and recommend courses of action, including governance votes for removal of members when necessary.
- Clarification: This subDAO cannot directly remove members; it can only recommend a governance vote.
FORMATION PROCESS
Application Phase (2 weeks post-approval)
- Interested individuals may apply for any sub-DAO.
- Applicants decide how much of their background and experience they wish to disclose to the public.
Community Consideration
- The community is encouraged to thoroughly evaluate candidates.
- Individuals with a proven history of rug-pulls or doxing should not be considered for a role within any sub-DAO
- It is important to remember that every Sub-DAO must pass a governance vote to officially form.
- As Sub-DAOs are taking form (before the governance vote), internal consideration should be given to how any potential members may affect the ability of the sub-DAO to pass a governance vote.
- No Sub-DAO should have more than one individual from the same Validator or L2 project, to mitigate any potential conflicts of interest.
Formation of the Sub-DAO
- If this proposal passes governance, the formation of the Sub-DAOs will begin.
- Formation of the Sub-DAOs will take place over a two-week period, starting the day after this approval has passed governance.
- Each Sub-DAO will form on their own, internally deciding who is best fit to ensure a collaborative and cohesive Sub-DAO.
- If there are more individuals interested in a specific Sub-DAO than the positions allow for, those interested will work together to decide who amongst them is best choice to meet the goals of the Sub-DAO.
- Once each group agrees on the individuals included, the group will proceed to step 4, the final governance approval to approve Sub-DAO formation.
Final Governance Approval
- The final governance vote will include:
- The list of nominated sub-DAO members (X handles or additional information, at their discretion).
- Identification of KYC-compliant and non-KYC members.
- The total requested payment for the 6-month term (presented as a single sum, not per individual).
- Upon approval, each sub-DAO will be formally established onย https://daodao.zone/.
- Should one or more groups not get approval, the group(s) should make adjustments to the individuals chosen, or incorporate feedback from the community into their applications for a further governance vote.
- Only after all four groups have passed a governance vote, members can continue with the Sub – DAO creation process.
- Sub – DAOs must only be created onย DaoDao.zoneย once all four groups have been approved through governance.
GOVERNANCE AND FUNDING
Governance Authority:
On-chain governance retains supreme authority over all decisions and can override any sub-DAO action if necessary.
Funding Mechanism:
- Payments will be handled via the vesting contract.
- Funds will be allocated to the sub-DAO treasury on DaoDao.
- Funds will not be allocated to any group, until all 4 Sub โ DAOs have been formally established, which takes place after all 4 groups have passed a governance vote.
- A spend proposal to fund each Sub โ DAOs vesting contract will be put up for a vote after the Sub โ DAOs have been created on DaoDao, and their treasury address is available.
- The vesting contract will release payments monthly to the sub-DAO treasury.
- Internal fund distribution among sub-DAO members will be determined via internal voting on DaoDao.
FUTURE MODIFICATIONS
Should the community or validators recognize the need for additional sub-DAOs, proposals can be submitted to introduce new sub-DAOs through governance.
CONCLUSION
The Terra Classic Sub-DAOs initiative presents a structured and decentralized approach to ensuring that key aspects of chain maintenance, communication, documentation, and mediation are managed effectively.
This proposal prioritizes transparency, security, and governance oversight while allowing for flexibility and community participation. We encourage all stakeholders to review and discuss the framework to ensure that it best serves the needs of the Terra Classic ecosystem.
